Whitney and Joe

I was able to jump head first into photography because of people like Whitney who gave me chances. She let me second shoot for probably around six or seven weddings and gave me some pretty cool responsibility. Its so fun being treated like an adult when you're a stubborn teenager who just wants to grow up and do adult-like things.
Well Whitney is having her turn and becoming the bride. I remember her re-meeting Joe (they originally met at CofC as little kiddos) and telling me all about him, and then her dropping off a lens in the arts building with a shiny ring!

At this point, the downpour started. You'll see some raindrops on some photos that my shirt wiping missed. At one point, I stood huddled under a teeny tiny covering with two cameras and a flash shoved under my shirt. Whitney and Joe drove through campus (literally. kinda on the places where you're not supposed to drive too...) to come get me. Me likey these types of couples.

I actually made Joe drop the umbrella that was covered the two for this short little series. Those are called troopers.

The Galvan Family

About two weeks ago, I got to hang out with the Galvan family. My friends Amy and Willis introduced me to this adorable family and boy am I thankful for that. Shannon and I decided that an evening of grilling out, playing in the backyard and putting the three chicas to bed would be best. And ontop of this, Shannon's parents would be in town from Canada and this was their first time meeting baby Vera.
Shoots, days, little moments like these, make me realize why I do what I do.
I think its so hard to keep your passion for anything in the arts when trying to live a normal life filled with anatomy, relationships and finding sleep. Every time I go through these photos, I feel as if I'm able to contribute something with my camera -that I can leave my thumbprint somewhere in forgotten and usually unappreciated moments.
So much grass, Spanish, Christ and sass. Which for me, means so many opportunities to create photos that will still be around and telling stories after I'm long gone.
I present to you the Galvan family. (I already apologize for the numerous captions, but I can't NOT explain these photos)

Penny refused to stand on the same step as the rest of the family and I love this photo even more just for that.

I love it when families request photos of them praying

Penny refused to give anybody kisses before heading off to bed but changed her mind at the last minute. I love everything that is going on here. Vera sleeping, Shannon bending down, Alonso bending up...it might just be perfect

Shannon wanted a photo of all the girls in the family but the younger generation wasn't too happy. After making faces and trying to convince the girls, Shannon gave up and said, 'Well we're all in the same photo and atleast this is FUN.' That is the total attitude I love of those who let me photograph them.

I'd have to say that if anyone ever wants to book me for family photos, this is who I am.
This is a true and whole representation of me as a photographer in my photos.
And THAT is such a nice feeling, figuring out who you are.

I hope everyone felt love today,

Going On

So update on a couple of things:
-Juliet Elizabeth took some fabulous headshots of me for my website last week and oh MAN, do I love them. It's so hard for a photographer to be photographed but these are so ME which is what I was looking for. Check them, and Juliet, out here.
-My website is coming! Anatomy exams come first but I now have everything! Galleries:check! Headshots:check! License: check! Time:never. I haven't forgotten to those of you who keep telling me to get this thing up! I want it up just as much as you do!
-If anybody wants to hook me up with some tickets to Mumford&Son's Atlanta show...do it.
-This evening, I'm heading off to take Whitney and Joe's engagement portraits and I'm beyond excited! I've known Whitney since I was sixteen and she was the first photographer I worked for, and we're tight like glue. Keep an eye out for their post soon!

Here's what I've been up lately:

This is one of our house pets, Lorenzo, NOT Alonso. His brother, Marco, was in the tank still Everybody should get some turtles

Julia didn't like Alonso once he was taken out of his tank

This is my friend Taylor. I've known Taylor since middle school and in high school, we both worked for The Post and Courier, she writing and me shooting. And now that she doesn't live in Charleston, I only get to see her every so often. So whenever she's in town, I snatch up any opportunity to hang out with her. Many thanks to my roommate Jessica for reflecting for me in our backyard!

And then comes the Galvan family. I met the Galvan family through the Weber familyjust a short bit ago. This was probably one of my favorite shoots/best shoot to date. Look for a full post soon!

And finally, Whitney and Joe. I mentioned earlier that I was heading out to do engagement portraits for the two...and its three days later. This is how crazed I am. Look for more photos later!
